Common use of chemicals in everyday activities can lead to unconcerned attitudes about the hazards they pose. This training reviews and provides information needed for the proper and safe use of chemicals. With this step-by-step online training video, four questions are addressed to help encourage the safe use of chemicals and hazardous materials.
"What am I working with?" This question focuses on the benefits of reading labels and material safety data sheets for key words and warning symbols that, due to global harmonization, are common place around the world.
The question, "can it hurt me," covers the responsibility workers have to know the risks posed by chemicals such as flammables, corrosives or toxins. The question "how can I protect myself," covers how using protective items such as breath masks, washing after using chemicals and proper usage and storage techniques can limit hazards.
"What do I do if something goes wrong?" This covers measures needed if hazardous chemical materials and their use results in a dangerous situation and the proper steps to resolve and cleanup these circumstances.
The training video informs workers how their attention to detail and knowing a chemical’s risks, makeup, potential hazards in using it, precautions needed to avoid accidents with it, and steps to take in case its use results in an emergency ensures the safe use of chemicals at work or at home.
